Summary

Have leadership responsibility to ensure effective use of bed capacity, including managing repatriation of Trust patients from other areas and moving patient between Trust units reporting to the Patient Pathway Service Clinical Lead, liaising with Senior Managers, Clinical Specialist Discharge Facilitators, Ward Managers, Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Clinical Team Leaders. Work with a high level of autonomy and authority to make decisions within Trust policy. Utilise advanced communication skills, verbal, non-verbal and written when dealing with highly charged and complex situations. Communicate sensitively and empathetically and diffuse situations of conflict when tensions arise around clinical priorities. Attend and contribute to relevant meetings within the Service Delivery Unit, ensuring positive engagement of all members of staff with the problems associated with capacity management. Utilise clinical expertise to direct movement and placement of patients where necessary for example, according to clinical dependency and infection control requirements. Lead on the development of appropriate audits in relation to bed capacity and the development of actions plans in light of findings. Have the authority to work directly with referring Clinicians (Gatekeeping Teams), Inpatient Nurse Management and will be accountable for ensuring that the decision making process is effective and that remedial action where necessary is proposed to senior management. Provide information/training on Capacity Management initiatives to Gatekeeping teams (Crisis, Home treatment, Mental health Liaison and AMHP`s and ward clinicians. Manage the transportation of patients between units and externally to include where specialist transport is required and ensure Trust process is followed in regard to booking specialist transport and the payment process ensuring providers are paid in a timely fashion.
