Summary
We are seeking an experienced dietitian to join our GI surgery and ICU dietetic team within St George’s NHS Foundation Trust. This opportunity has arisen to cover a maternity.
The successful candidate will be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and dynamic, with excellent team-working, communication, and organisational skills. Advanced knowledge and experience within ICU, surgery, Type 1 intestinal failure, and nutrition support are essential.
Our surgical department specialises in cancer, bariatrics, inflammatory bowel disease, and trauma, presenting complex cases. The post-holder will be responsible for the provision and ongoing development of a specialist, evidence-based dietetic service to upper and lower gastrointestinal patients and general ICU patients.
This role involves inpatient care and plays a key role within established and well-respected multidisciplinary teams. The successful candidate will also be expected to lead and contribute to service improvement projects and demonstrate a strong commitment to continuing professional development.
Additionally, this role will support colleagues in the wider ICU and gastrointestinal dietetic team, which covers inpatient gastroenterology (luminal and hepatology), intestinal rehabilitation, and the nutrition support team.
This role provides inpatient clinical work delivering inpatient dietetic care to upper and lower GI surgery patients on designated wards and ICU patients on the General ICU.
The successful candidate will be embedded within both the General ICU team and GI surgical team and will be expected to attend surgical handover, nutrition support ward rounds when applicable, long term patient MDT meeting on ICU and rehabilitation ward round on ICU.
They will also be expected to lead and contribute to service improvement projects and demonstrate a strong commitment to continuing professional development.
The wider dietetic team at St George’s consists of over 60 dietitians who provide clinical inpatient and outpatient services to a variety of specialties, including cancer services, haematology, renal, neurology, cardiology, diabetes, and paediatrics. The department is committed to training dietetic students and actively participates in training programs across the organisation. There are also numerous opportunities for professional and personal development.
