  Our Operations Managers play a crucial role helping deliver justice and are accountable for day to day operations across London Magistrates’ Courts. We are seeking an experienced leader able to motivate remote teams, foster strong relationships with key stakeholders and ensure our services are customer focused and efficient.

About your role 

London Magistrates’ Courts sit within HMCTS’ London region. Your role is responsible for the strategic oversight of the Legal Admin Support Team (LAST) for the London Magistrates’ Courts, ensuring magistrates’ recruitment and court rotas for magistrates’ are maintained to support the smooth running of the courts. You will also support your Head of Legal Operations to meet operational needs and deliver cluster performance objectives.   

You will be at the forefront of organisational change, making a real difference in how service is delivered, working in a supportive environment with a focus on continuous improvement.

 Leading a Delivery Manager to support the management of a 32-member team, you’ll provide a consistent and customer-focused service, driving a collaborative culture across the team, ensuring effective deployment of resources.

About you

You’re a resilient and positive leader who thrives on delivering effective and efficient services and enjoys working with a variety of stakeholders. You lead by example, coaching and developing your team in setting local priorities and objectives to achieve National/Regional and Area strategies and plans.

You’re able to work collaboratively with Senior Legal Managers in the cluster to manage conflicting demands on the business and able to reprioritise local and regional goals where required.

Skills and Experience

· Proven experience in a senior operations or management role, preferably within a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.

· Strong leadership skills with a track record of leading teams through change.

· Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to maintain relationships at all levels.

· Experience in budget management and resource allocation.

These operational roles are customer facing, requiring successful applicants to be office based to provide HMCTS services to the public.

Standard full time working hours are 37 hours per week. HMCTS welcomes part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns, where they meet the demands of the role and business needs and are agreed prior to appointment. All applications for part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns will be considered in accordance with the MoJ’s Flexible Working policy.

Full time hours are preferred; however, part time may be considered if you are able to commit to at least 4 days per week, working the full standard day of 7 hours and 24 minutes. This requirement reflects the high‑volume and fast‑paced nature of the role.

Due to the nature of this role, there will be occasions of working after 5pm to attend meetings either in person across London, or on Teams.

Please note that the City of London Magistrates’ Court will close in the latter part of 2026. Further information to be discussed with the successful candidate in choosing an alternative base.

For this post, travel to all London Magistrates’ Court, and other London locations may be required, and on occasion, outside London for meetings, conferences, or events.
