Further details about the role
We are looking for a specialist who thrives in an atmosphere of intellectual curiosity and academic rigour.
• Exceptional Students: The students' interest in and commitment to Chemistry is remarkable. They are easily inspired to take their learning further and typically embrace challenging activities with relish. You will teach students who are intrinsically motivated and highly engaged.
• Outstanding Outcomes: The three sciences are taught as separate subjects throughout the school, leading to exceptional results. Nearly all students sit separate Edexcel GCSEs, and we achieve good scores consistently in prestigious Olympiads and external competitions.
• Future Scientists: Uptake for Chemistry is high at A-Level, and a significant proportion of our Sixth Form Chemists go on to study highly competitive science-related undergraduate courses, including at Oxford and Cambridge.
Resources and Facilities
The successful candidate will benefit from excellent facilities and a strong focus on technical support and modern teaching methods:
• Dedicated Laboratories: You will teach within the Chemistry Department, which is currently housed across five dedicated, well-resourced laboratories (four on the second floor, one junior lab on the ground floor), all supported by highly experienced and dedicated technicians.
• Digital Learning: We fully embrace personalised learning, with all Year 7-11 students using Chromebooks and A-Level students using laptops in lessons.
• Curriculum Ownership: Our comprehensive, electronically stored scheme of learning and extensive learning resources were developed in-house by department members to specifically match the learning styles and high capabilities of RGS pupils.
• Investment in the Future: While currently in a 1960s building, the School has concrete plans for a medium-term renovation of the Science Department, offering the successful candidate the opportunity to contribute to the future vision of the faculty.
