Summary
Main responsibilities in Prosthetics - Assess new and established amputee patient, identifying and agreeing through shared decision physiotherapy goals. - Assess the patients and provide a bespoke exercise programme to increase their power and control to help with using the limb, achieving safe transfers (with or without the limb), or preventing contractures. - Support the MDT in decisions around if a client will be safe to have a limb. - If the amputee patient is going to be provided with a limb, work with the patient and prosthetist around fit of limb and gait retraining. - Assess for and prescribe mobility aids as required. - Complete nationally agreed outcome measures. - Contribute to Microprocessor knee (MPK) trials. - Supervise Band 3 physiotherapy assistant and students. Main responsibilities in Prehabilitation - Conduct comprehensive prehabilitation assessments of patients scheduled for major abdominal cancer surgery. - Evaluate patients physical condition, functional capacity, and any existing musculoskeletal or neuromuscular issues that may impact their surgical and post-operative outcomes. - Develop tailored prehabilitation plans for each patient based on their unique needs and medical history. - Explain the prehabilitation program, its benefits, and the exercises involved, ensuring patients understand and are motivated to participate. - Provide emotional support and motivation to patients throughout the prehabilitation process, ensuring they feel confident and empowered to participate in their recovery journey. - Contribute to the development and improvement of the prehabilitation program, working closely with the team to enhance patient outcomes and overall program effectiveness. - Supervise assistant staff and students.
