We are looking for a permanent Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to support children at Penn Wood and secure their access to the curriculum and teaching. This is an exciting opportunity for a committed and experienced individual who is passionate about supporting pupils and confident in providing classroom cover. The postholder must demonstrate that they can work on their own initiative, demonstrating the highest expectations for our children.
The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, the LSA team and other professionals to help children—including those with additional needs—communicate effectively, access our high-quality curriculum, developing confidence and independence.
You will play a key role in creating a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment and will be skilled at supporting pupils in both independent learning and play, helping them to build relationships with their peers. You will be deeply-invested in our community and ambitious for all children, demonstrating how you ensure all children gain access to the educational and play experiences they deserve.
This post offers an experienced LSA the opportunity to provide cover on an ad-hoc basis (payment on the UQ teacher scale) in response to the school’s needs and could lead to the pursuit of teaching qualification if mutually agreed.
Safeguarding Statement: Penn Wood Primary and Nursery School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff, volunteers, and visitors to share this commitment. Rigorous safeguarding procedures are in place, and all successful applicants will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, as well as other relevant pre-employment checks. This will include verifying references, identity, and the right to work in the UK. Safeguarding and child protection will be explored as part of the recruitment process, including at interview. Candidates should be prepared to discuss their understanding of safeguarding responsibilities, and any gaps in employment history will be scrutinised. Any offer of employment is subject to the satisfactory completion of all safeguarding checks. We are dedicated to ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all children and will take immediate action to address any concerns.
