About the role
Join Wiltshire Police as our Head of Finance Systems & Governance and play a strategic role at the heart of the organisation.
As a key member of the Senior Finance leadership team, you’ll shape the future of our financial systems and governance frameworks, driving innovation, efficiency, and compliance across the Force.
This is a standout opportunity for an influential, forward‑thinking finance leader to make a real impact in a complex, meaningful public‑service environment.
What you will be doing
1) Deliver and continually refine the Force-wide financial systems strategy—ensuring ERP, Halo, and reporting tools are effectively implemented, integrated, optimised, and aligned with organisational needs.
2) Strengthen financial governance across the Force by developing, maintaining, and embedding robust policies, processes, and assurance frameworks that support compliance and strategic decision‑making
3) Lead end‑to‑end project management and change control for all finance system upgrades—ensuring seamless integration, thorough testing, and zero-defect deployment.
4) Act as the primary business partner to IT and system suppliers, ensuring issues are proactively resolved and systems deliver accurate, timely data for all Finance departments.
5) Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities to streamline processes, reduce duplication, and harness technology to enhance efficiency and data quality.
6) Provide governance assurance to the PCC and Chief Officer Group, leading the preparation and delivery of periodic assurance reports and supporting audit activity.
7) Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing finance systems team, embedding a culture of accuracy, customer service, accountability, and continuous improvement.
8) Support Force-wide and regional projects requiring finance systems expertise, contributing to cost‑saving initiatives and sharing best practice across the policing sector.
About you and your experience
1) Qualified to CIPFA, ACCA, or CIMA (or equivalent)
2) Proven experience in a senior Finance / Finance Systems role or equivalent within a complex organisation.
3) Strong track record of managing and developing people, including performance management and welfare oversight.
4) Significant experience managing complex financial systems, including ERP environments.
5) Demonstrated ability and drive to deliver change and improvement across financial processes and systems.
6) Experience working in a customer‑focused environment and managing competing, diverse tasks.
7) Understanding of governance frameworks within the public sector and work collaboratively to delivering to a high standard.
