Summary
We are excited to offer a band 7 Specialist Clinical Psychologist full time post sitting within the National and Specialist CAMHS Outpatients Service for Complex Autism and Associated Neurodevelopmental Disorders (SCAAND) based at the Michael Rutter centre at the Maudsley Hospital. We are due to move to an innovative new purpose-built space nearby, The Pears Maudsley Centre.
The SCAAND service provides a number of streams of mental health care for autistic young people, young people with intellectual disability and other neurodevelopmental conditions and syndromes of all ability levels, especially those with complex mental health needs and other comorbidities. We offer specialist multi-disciplinary assessment and interventions for families.
Clinical work in the team is diverse, collaborative, evidence-based and truly multi-disciplinary, and includes an interesting mix of direct and indirect intervention and consultation to clinicians in local teams. As a specialist service, the team aims to work closely with the local services and agencies already involved and supporting the mental health needs of the young person.
The role offers a range of service development, supervision, teaching, clinical leadership and research opportunities. SCAAND clinicians have access to a range of CPD and training both within and outside of SLAM NHS Trust. SCAAND has excellent links with KCL and Clinical Psychology training courses.
This role involves a balanced combination of providing specialist MDT assessment (ADOS assessment, cognitive and neuropsychological testing and clinical interviews), formulation and interventions for children, young people and parents/carers, providing consultation, training and support to local CAMHS clinicians and multi-agency networks, care planning and implementation and monitoring of outcomes. A good knowledge of development and neurodevelopment, or a strong interest in this area is therefore important.
This role also includes providing supervision and line management to assistant psychologists and undergraduate placement students. Supporting the psychological aspects of case formulation and planning within the MDT is a key component of the role and highly valued within the team in regular meetings and joint working. A key part of the role is supporting young people, their families, networks and our team members to flourish by creating a psychologically safe environment. We regularly develop service evaluation projects, deliver teaching and training internally, to local training programmes, including KCL DClinPsy, and to external services and other agencies.
The post-holder will work closely with other clinical psychologists in SCAAND and other N&S CAMHS teams as an autonomous professional within BPS and HCPC guidelines and codes of conduct and guided by the policies and procedures of the service.

About our location:
SCAAND is based at the Michael Rutter Centre and will be moving to the new purpose-built Pears Maudsley Centre. Both are located in Denmark Hill less than 5 minutes from the train station (Zone 2) and is within walking distance from the beautiful green spaces of Ruskin Park and the vibrant high-street that offers great shopping opportunities and with a wide range of restaurants. We may occasionally travel to appointments in the community e.g. for school observations. The Maudsley Hospital is our headquarters.
• To provide specialist psychology assessment, including clinical interviews, cognitive/ psychometric/ neuropsychological and other standardised assessments such as ADOS-2 where appropriate
• To provide adapted evidence-based interventions with children and young people with complex presentations associated with their neurodevelopmental and associated mental health needs.
• To work in partnership, regularly liaise and provide consultations to local networks.
• To use routine outcome measures, contribute towards audit, service evaluation and research projects,
• To provide clinical supervision/line management for junior staff members e.g. Assistant Psychologists and Undergraduate Psychology Placement students
• To work as an autonomous professional within BPS and HCPC guidelines and codes of conduct and guided by values and principles and policies or procedures of the Trust and service, taking responsibility for own clinical decision making.
