Vale Learning Centre

The Vale Learning Centre is part of the Adult Community Learning programme in the Vale of Glamorgan providing learning opportunities for adults aged 16+. Based on the first floor of Barry Library, the Vale learning Centre offers the franchised provision of Essential Skills Communication (literacy) and Application of Number (numeracy). We can support learners at various levels from Pre-Entry Reading Support up to Level 2. Learners are supported to achieve a range of accreditation including Agored Cymru and City and Guilds.

We also offer ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) provision from Beginners to Level 2, helping learners to develop their English language skills for work, home and life. ESOL learners can achieve qualifications with both Agored Cymru and Trinity College.

Get Back on Track

This Welsh Government Funded programme offers free courses to eligible learners. Courses include one-day, 5 x week and 10 x week sessions and are accredited through a variety of awarding bodies including Agored Cymru, British Computer Society and Highfields.

The programme includes Digital Skills, Employability Skills for the Workplace and British Sign Language, along with a programme of Health and Wellbeing Courses, including Confidence, Pottery, Woodwork and many more. The programme is primarily based at Palmerston Community Learning Centre, Barry CF63 2NT with outreach provision across the Vale.

About the role
As a sessional adult tutor, you will deliver engaging courses for learners, supporting them to build skills and confidence.

Pay Details: JNC Youth and Community Professional Range Point 14

Hours of Work: Various part time sessions as required. Sessions are typically of 2-3 hours duration and take place mornings afternoons, or evenings. Course duration adult learning term time only.

Main Place of Work: Various Adult Education Centres and a range of outreach venues such as Libraries, Job Centres and Community Centres across the Vale of Glamorgan.

About you
What we are looking for:

Passion for adult learning and community education.
A relevant teaching qualification.
Subject expertise and the ability to engage and challenge adult learners.
Understanding of assessment or experience of delivering accredited programmes.
Good communication and organisational skills.
A commitment to inclusive learning and equal opportunities.
Willingness to undertake further training as required.
Confidence in delivering learning using digital technology.
An understanding of the needs of adult learners and an empathy for vulnerable learners.
Teaching qualifications and experience in adult education are desirable. Tutors will also need to be registered with the Education Workforce Council for Wales.
