Summary

About the role

This role includes line-management of individuals based in both of our warehouse locations in Broadwater and Hove and therefore requires the post-holder to be equally present at both sites. Occasional working at any of our three hospice locations should also be expected. How, when and where you work will be agreed with your line manager balancing the needs of Southern Hospice Group, the team and you.

The Operations Manager oversees daily operations across the retail office and warehouses in Broadwater and Hove, ensuring an efficient, well-organised and customer-focused service. The role leads a team of five, maintaining high operational standards, effective processes and strong collaboration with Retail leadership and Warehouse Managers. The post holder ensures the smooth flow of stock, safe working environments, reliable IT and equipment, and the delivery of excellent service to shops and supporters.

Essential criteria

· Provide leadership and line management to Retail Office teams and Warehouse Managers across both sites.

· Ensure efficient, cost-effective operations across all retail support functions.

· Act as escalation point for customer queries and complaints, resolving issues promptly.

· Prepare accurate financial and KPI reports for the Head of Retail.

· Oversee sickness, holiday and training compliance across Retail Operations.

· Lead recruitment and induction processes for distribution centre staff.

· Deliver training to shop and distribution centre teams.

· Ensure safe and compliant operation of premises, equipment and facilities.

· Oversee EPOS system usage, training and development to maximise income.

· Collaborate with IT providers to maintain robust retail technology systems.

· Manage administration and operations budgets in partnership with the Head of Retail.

· Lead on health, safety and sustainability policy and initiatives.

· Ensure effective vehicle fleet management with Warehouse Managers.

· Support stock planning and distribution with Retail and Online Sales Managers.

· Identify opportunities to maximise recycling income and minimise waste.

· Complete risk assessments, manage risks and ensure best practice.

· Promote excellent customer service and a safe, positive working environment
