Our group function Technology team here at Saga is recruiting for an experienced DBA (SQL) to join the team. You will report to the Lead Technology Engineer and work alongside our expert DBA’s. In this role you will be responsible for the availability, security, performance and stability of the SQL platforms used across the Saga Group.
We will require you to have at least mid-level skill as our SQL DBA. You’ll be proficient in T-SQL queries, stored procedures, partitioning, indexing, and performance tuning, plus SQL scripting for automation.
We are a hands-on team, so you will need to be proficient with backups/recovery, monitoring, security, and SSIS/SSRS for ETL/reporting and monitoring tools. Also, knowledge of high availability (e.g., Always On, clustering), disaster recovery, security management and data migration would be beneficial for this FTC support to the team.
At Saga we work in a hybrid way, both at home and in the office. Our team regularly meet in Folkestone and tend to have a pattern of 1-2 days per week working from our office.

• Research and application of required security remediation and vulnerability management activities.
• Developing an awareness to the availability of new SQL products/product versions in terms of their applicability to the Saga business objectives.
• Pro-active approach on database administration, monitoring and quality assurance.
• Developing in-house tools to meet the company’s special needs, such as database growth prediction and database reorganisation.
• Working collaboratively with other Technology professionals to deliver technology programmes, projects and workstreams.
• Ensuring deliveries are secure, in line with best practice and aligned to policy.
• Creating and maintaining technical documents.
• Availability and reliability of the SQL estate including high availability techniques, backup and monitoring.
You will have already worked as a DBA (SQL), ideally for a business that has handled regulated data and transactional workloads. You will also need to demonstrate the following skills, knowledge and experience to be selected for this role:
• Proficiency in SQL Server management, performance tuning, and high availability setups
• Proven experience in GDPR/PCI and sector-specific systems
• Proven experience of database design and support
• Demonstrable experience of change lifecycle
• Excellent communication skills
• Technical capability in required fields (SQL)
Ideally have:
• A Degree in IT/computer science or equivalent; Microsoft certifications (e.g., MCSA/MCITP SQL) preferred.
