Applications are invited for a permanent post of Assistant/Associate Professor of Gonville & Caius College and Fellow in Sociology commencing on 1 September 2026. The post is shared with Homerton College with the employment and Fellowship provided by Gonville & Caius College.

Applications are welcome from persons with experience of working at post-doctoral level in any area of Sociology. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue their own program of research, with opportunities to become integrated and involved in activities within the Department of Sociology. The successful candidate will also be required to play a key role in helping to deliver undergraduate teaching within Gonville & Caius and Homerton Colleges on the Human Social and Political Sciences (HSPS) Tripos. In particular, they will be required to carry out a set amount of small group teaching (supervisions) during term, equivalent to approximately ten hours per week teaching students in pairs. Much of this teaching will be done for students from Gonville & Caius and Homerton Colleges and the remainder for students of other colleges in Cambridge. They will also be required to assist with the direction of studies for students and take part in the admissions process for both colleges.

The appointment is for three years in the first instance, starting on 1 September 2026 with the possibility of appointment without named period after this time. The current annual stipend of an Assistant/Associate Professor of Gonville & Caius College is on the University Single Pay Spine - points 49 to 58 (currently in the range £47,389 to £61,759), with the possibility of promotion to Professor of Gonville & Caius College – point 63 (currently £71,566). This salary is pensionable under the University Superannuation Scheme (USS). Service as director of studies is separately remunerated and the successful candidate is likely to be asked to serve as director of studies in both colleges for students on the Sociology track and the joint Sociology/Political track as well as to students in the first year of the HSPS tripos.

The successful candidate would also have the opportunity in the future to serve as a Pastoral Tutor to a panel of either Undergraduate or Postgraduate students at Gonville & Caius College (remunerated separately).

The successful candidate will be appointed as a College Lecturer and elected to a Fellowship of Gonville & Caius College to be held for the duration of their tenure as Assistant/Associate Professor of Gonville & Caius College.
