Summary
An opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist to work in our forward thinking and innovative team delivering client centred and occupation- centred care. Based in our friendly team of 3 Physiotherapy and 5 Occupational Therapy staff, you will be part of the Primary Schools Team based at Mile End Hospital. We follow an integrated model of delivering therapy services to children and young people. You will see children with a wide range of developmental difficulties (Physical, Learning and ASD) at homes and in mainstream and special schools. You will also be required to take part in delivering Parent Workshops and trainings.
Clinical supervision, in-service training, quality improvement projects and CPD opportunities will be offered to progress your skill development as a therapist. Applications for flexible working will be considered.
The Community Children’s Therapies team provides physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy for children and young people up to the age of 19 in Tower Hamlets. Most of the children and young people we work with have developmental difficulties which often are linked to a medical diagnosis e.g. cerebral palsy or autism.
Our services are delivered in clinics, mainstream and special schools, nursery settings, children and family centres and homes. You will be required to complete visits in a variety of settings e.g. homes, schools, children’s centres. As well as working at a ‘specialist’ level where we accept referrals for individual children and young people to our service, we also work with partner organisations like schools and children and family centres to enable other professionals to support families at a ‘targeted’ level. Building the capacity of other professionals and parents to support children and young people with developmental difficulties is a key priority for our team.
The role of the post holder is to provide a highly specialist and evidence-based Occupational Therapy Service to a specialist caseload of children with complex health and physical needs attending a designated special school as well as mainstream schools. To work towards leading the primary team and assist in the provision of day-to-day management of junior therapists and Therapy Assistants.
