Summary
Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust has an exciting opportunity for a Fellowship SpR Equivalent in Extremity Reconstruction to join the Trust Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery for a fixed term period from 07/10/26 to 06/04/27. Future posts may also be appointed so suitable applicants are encouraged to apply.
The Department manages approximately 150 open lower limb fractures and 30 complex upper limb injuries each year, either presenting acutely or as tertiary referrals and provides a hand trauma service for injuries presenting to the Trust. Additionally there is integration with the entire Major Trauma service and the successful applicant will have the opportunity to work with other teams involved in the management of the critically injured patient.
The post is suitable for an individual wishing to pursue a long term interest in upper or lower limb trauma and reconstruction. The work is relevant to anyone looking to work as a plastic surgery Consultant within a major trauma centre. Traditionally the post has been held by individuals towards the end of their training but might also be suitable for the right candidate earlier in their training with a sub specialist interest.
The successful applicant will be expected to have the experience for clinical activity as laid out in the job description. The post holder will ideally have passed theFRCS(Plast) or equivalentexam at the time of commencing in post.

The post does not have Post Graduate Dean approval but has been recognised by the SAC so that the successful applicant can prospectively apply for the time to be recognised for training.
The Fellow will work closely with the Extremity Reconstruction and Trauma Consultants in the care of both routine and emergency clinical problems. The post is based primarily at the St Mary’s site and to a lesser extent at Charing Cross Hospital. The post holder will join the SpR on call rota covering all Trust sites.

Plastic Surgery Department:
The Plastic Surgery Service atICHT offers comprehensive Plastic Surgery services; breast reconstruction, head and neck reconstruction, extremity reconstruction and supports the Major Trauma Unit at St Mary’s. Inpatient services include general plastic surgery, with dedicated wards and operating theatres.There is a close relationship with many other departments involvement in MDTs for head & neck oncology, skin, lower limb & breast reconstruction.
The department comprises 15 Consultants, 2 Associate Specialists, 2 Microsurgery Fellows, 2 Extremity Reconstruction Fellows, 9 Registrars & 15 Junior Clinical Fellows.
Role Summary:
The duties of the post are primarily at St Mary’s Hospital, with on-call cover across St Mary’s, Charing Cross, & Hammersmith Hospitals. The post-holder will join the Registrar rota working closely with Consultants on routine & emergency clinical problems. The Fellow will attend extremity reconstruction procedures, supervise less experienced trainees and manage patients on ward rounds. The role involves assisting in elective and emergency surgeries and attending outpatient clinics. The Fellow will also organize the Orthoplastic MDT and ensure effective communication with the team.
Educational Objectives:
The Fellow will gain expertise in Extremity Reconstruction, with opportunities to engage in research, publishing, and presenting at local and national meetings.
