We're looking for a Flooring Technician who will work as part of the Estates team, delivering specialist flooring installation, maintenance and inspection services across a live healthcare environment.
Role ResponsibilitiesTo provide a specialist flooring installation, maintenance and inspection service across the healthcare estate, ensuring all works are delivered safely, compliantly and to a high standard in line with contractual, statutory and infection prevention requirements.
The post holder will:
-Work collaboratively as part of the Estates team to provide a specialist flooring installation, maintenance and inspection service within a live acute healthcare environment.
-Install, repair and maintain safety vinyl, cap and cove systems, hot welded sheet flooring, carpet tiles and associated subfloor systems in line with statutory, contractual and infection prevention requirements.
-Deliver both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) inspections and reactive flooring repairs efficiently and effectively.
-Carry out hot works (including vinyl welding) strictly in accordance with Mitie LiveSafe procedures, permit-to-work systems and fire safety requirements.
-Use PDA/CAFM technology to record inspections, evidence compliance, raise follow-on works and progress jobs through to completion in line with Mitie protocol.
-Support the Small Works Supervisor in delivering minor works, lifecycle replacements and flooring upgrade projects.
Main duties
-Install and repair safety vinyl flooring including cap and cove skirting systems in clinical and non-clinical areas.
-Undertake hot welding of vinyl joints ensuring seamless, infection-control compliant finishes.
-Install and replace carpet tiles and entrance matting systems.
-Prepare subfloors including minor screeding, latex application and levelling works.
-Respond to reactive defects including trip hazards, lifting seams, damaged tiles and water-damaged flooring.
-Carry out site-wide flooring PPM inspections, identifying wear, defects, fire-stopping breaches at floor penetrations and infection control risks.
-Accurately record all works, inspections and findings via CAFM/PDA including photographic evidence.
-Raise follow-on works where required and monitor through to completion in accordance with Mitie processes.
-Work safely under hot works permit procedures, implementing fire watch requirements where necessary.
-Ensure all works comply with:
-HTMs and HBMs
-Fire safety regulations
-Infection Prevention & Control requirements
-PFI contractual obligations (where applicable)
-Produce and follow Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for all works.
-Liaise professionally with ward staff and departments to minimise disruption within live healthcare areas.
-Maintain high standards of housekeeping and safe working at all times.
-Support other building fabric tasks where required within competency.
Required QualificationsApplicants must meet the below defined requirements for the role.
-NVQ Level 2 (minimum) in Floorcovering Occupations or recognised equivalent trade qualification.
-Proven experience installing safety vinyl, cap and cove systems, hot welded joints and carpet tiles.
-Experience working in a healthcare, PFI or compliance-led environment.
-Strong understanding of hot works control and fire safety procedures.
-Knowledge of infection prevention requirements within clinical areas.
-Experience using CAFM or digital job management systems.
-Ability to work independently under the direction of a Supervisor.
-Good communication skills and professional approach in patient-facing environments.
-Evidence of experience that provides the required competencies, however gained.
