Exciting things are happening within the Digital Services Team at Derbyshire County Council and we’re looking for a Principal Data Architect to join our Strategy and Architecture team.

A major review of our organisation and strategies has been completed and we have invested in new tools to support a comprehensive and innovative Digital Services transformation programme, to support the delivery of key services to the citizens and communities of Derbyshire.

This role will be pivotal in helping us deliver our transformation programme, as a key post within the Digital Services, Strategy and Architecture function. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has significant experience of managing Data Architecture and delivering change and who really wants to make a difference.

Key Responsibilities of this role are:

Based within a dynamic and challenging environment, you will be working in several key areas including:

  • Overseeing the design of multiple data models and have a broad understanding of how each model fulfils the needs of the organisation
  • Being accountable for creation and implementation of the Council’s data strategy
  • Championing data architecture both internally and through collaborating and communicating at the most senior levels across the Council
  • Setting the standards and ways of working for the data architecture community
  • Providing advice to project teams and oversee the management of the full data product life cycle
  • Taking an active role in Architecture Governance process to ensure that the organisation’s systems are designed in accordance with the enterprise data architecture
  • Providing expert advice and support to a range of stakeholders regarding ICT services, ensuring customer requirements are met and best value for money is obtained for the Council

What skills and experience do you need to have ?

  • Substantial experience of managing an ICT Data Management function in a large complex organisation
  • Operating at a senior level in a large ICT Service environment, managing and delivering change
  • Proven experience of managing, motivating and continually developing staff to deliver strong performance
  • Advising non ICT colleagues and presenting clear accessible reports/business cases for senior managers and elected members.
  • Ensuring effective Data Management strategies and practices are in place for the organisation
  • Experience in evaluating, selecting and onboarding architecture tools (LeanIX is preferred)

Our Digital Services Team is contractually based in Matlock, Derbyshire, but we work on a hybrid basis.
