To provide a qualified specialist Clinical Psychology service to service users of the Perinatal Community Mental Health Service. To provide specialist psychological assessments and therapy at the same time as offering highly specialised advice and consultation on service users’ psychological care to other Psychologists / Psychological Therapist colleagues, non psychologist colleagues and to other non-professional members of the multidisciplinary team.



To provide clinical supervision to less experienced Psychologists/Therapists, Assistant Psychologist, and / or Trainee Clinical Psychologists or other professionals. The postholder is responsible for the allocation of clinical work within their own team to less experienced Psychologists/Therapists, Assistant(s), Trainee(s) or other professionals.



To take sole professional responsibility and exercise autonomous professional and clinical judgement within the overall framework of Trust, HCPC and BPS. To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team and service. In common with all Clinical Psychologists/Psychological Therapists, to receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with good practice.

• Provides specialist psychological assessment of clients accessing Perinatal Mental Health Services with highly complex conditions based on the appropriate use interpretation and integration of data from a variety of sources.

• Responsible for recognising the potential for or signs of client harm abuse or neglect including poor clinical practice reporting all such concerns and taking all reasonable steps to protect the client.

• Formulates plans for specialist psychological therapy and/or management of clients’ mental health conditions based upon an appropriate conceptual framework and evidence-based practice. Negotiates the implementation of such plans with clients and/or their carers.

• Implements a range of specialist psychological therapies for individual clients carers families and groups, adjusting and refining psychological formulations as required.

• Provides specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other staff contributing directly to client’s diagnosis, formulation and intervention plan.

• Facilitates decision-making by planning and mapping processes/interventions with members of the team to determine the most appropriate treatment modality or service for clients.
