Summary

Toolmaker/Die Maintenance Apprenticeship Level 3

Role responsibilities

Our business relies on toolmakers who are responsible for repairing, maintaining, and fabricating stamping dies that are used to shape metal into parts for our customers.
As a toolmaker apprentice, you will acquire toolmaking skills that involve both traditional machines like mills, drills, and lathes, and modern technologies like 3D CAD design and CNC machining. These skills will make you a versatile and well-equipped toolmaker for the future.
You will also master welding (Mig, Tig, Arc) and learn to recognise the hardness and heat resistance of various metals and alloys. These skills with be fundamental when carrying out maintenance and repairs to worn or damaged dies, jigs, and fixtures.

Apprenticeship

Spanning over 4 years, this level 3 engineering apprenticeship offers you a comprehensive learning and practical experience. In the first year, you’ll learn foundational engineering skills honing essential skills like welding, fabrication, and understanding material properties.

Your apprenticeship will transition into a hands-on experience. Here, you’ll apply your acquired knowledge and skills in real-world scenarios, contributing to the smooth operation of our manufacturing plants.

Upon completing your apprenticeship, you’ll receive a nationally recognized Level 3 Extended Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, affirming your proficiency in the field.

Upon Completion of Level 3 apprenticeship there may be an opportunity to pursue an HNC-level qualification, further elevating your expertise and career opportunities.

Role Requirements

- At least 5x GCSEs, including the minimum of Grade 5 in Maths, and Grade 4 in four other subjects including English and Science.
- An interest in engineering and problem-solving is essential.
- Highly motivated with a good initiative.
- Ability to work on your own, and as part of a team.
