About the Company
AirCare provides non-medical home care and companionship to older adults across Hertfordshire. We use Birdie, the UK’s leading digital care platform, to give families real-time updates and full transparency.
We connect self-employed carers with families who need reliable, compassionate support. We handle the client relationships, care planning, and technology — you focus on delivering excellent care.
Founded by David Hall after his own father’s care journey, AirCare is built on one simple idea: care should feel personal, transparent, and dignified — for families and for the people who deliver it.
Why should I apply for this Care Practitioner job?
This is a self-employed contractor role, not a salaried position. Here’s what that means in practice:
• You set your own availability — choose when and how much you work
• We match you with local clients — elderly people in their own homes who need non-medical support
• You’re paid £16–£18/hr — you invoice for the hours you work
• You manage your own tax and National Insurance — as a self-employed professional
• No holiday pay, sick pay, or pension is included — but the higher hourly rate reflects this
• You’ll use Birdie — our digital care platform for care notes, scheduling, and family updates
Why carers choose AirCare
• Higher pay than local agencies — £16–£18/hr vs the £12–£15 typical in Hertfordshire
• Real flexibility — not “flexitime” on someone else’s terms, but genuine control over your diary
• Modern technology — Birdie makes record-keeping and communication simple
• A founder who understands care — David built AirCare from personal experience, not a business plan
• Respect for your professionalism — we treat carers as skilled practitioners, not disposable staff
• Local, manageable patch — clients in Ware and East Hertfordshire, not scattered across the county
What does this Care Practitioner job involve?
Hours of Work:Self Employed - Up To Full Time Hours Available - Flexible Hours Between 07:00 - 19:00
You’ll visit elderly clients in their own homes, helping them live independently and with dignity. Typical support includes:
• Personal care — washing, dressing, and grooming support
• Companionship — conversation, outings, and being a friendly, familiar face
• Meal preparation and support with hydration and nutrition
• Medication reminders and accurate record-keeping via Birdie
• Light household tasks to keep the home safe and comfortable
• Following personalised care plans and flagging any changes in wellbeing
• Communicating with families and health professionals as needed
Am I the right person for this Care Practitioner job?
Essential
• A genuine passion for supporting older people
• Good English — spoken and written — for clear communication and care records
• Reliability and a professional, self-motivated attitude
• Willingness to travel locally (driving licence and own vehicle preferred)
• DBS check (we can advise on how to obtain one if needed)
• Registered as self-employed, or willing to register
Desirable but not essential
• Experience in home care or a care home setting
• Familiarity with digital care platforms or basic IT confidence
• NVQ/QCF in Health & Social Care (any level)
• Public liability insurance (we can advise on this)
We care far more about your values and attitude than your CV. If you’ve been caring for a family member and want to turn that experience into a paid role with flexibility, we’d love to hear from you.
