The HR Support Services Officer plays a vital role in delivering high-quality, efficient HR transactional services across the full employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding to payroll and contract termination. Acting as the first point of contact for HR queries, the role ensures accurate advice and timely resolution of issues.

You will manage and maintain workforce data within core HR systems, produce reports and metrics for senior managers, and support the quarterly People dashboard. The position requires strong analytical skills to examine databases, present data effectively, and ensure compliance with audit requirements.

Operating in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment, you will deal with high-volume administrative tasks, liaise with third-party suppliers, and provide first-line system support to users. The role also involves identifying opportunities for process improvements and supporting system updates and testing.

This is a key role within the Resources Directorate (People and Development), reporting to the HR Operations Manager. It demands excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues. If you thrive on problem-solving, delivering at pace, and ensuring a quality service, this role offers the opportunity to make a real impact on the organisation’s HR operations.

The main things you will be doing are:

  • The effective and efficient delivery of transactional services for all employees from recruitment, through to onboarding and all activities associated with the employee lifecycle including termination of contracts
  • You will respond to employee and line manager queries and issue resolution at the first point of contact whenever possible to avoid escalation, using established guidance and checklists, enabling P&D colleagues to focus on strategic aims.
  • Examine database(s) to produce accurate and timely returns, reports and management information for all transactional requirements, including data for external bodies and internal Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s). Ability to do initial analysis and present data effectively in Excel for senior managers and customers.
  • You will be responsible for handling high volume administrative and transactional activities in a fast-paced environment. This includes transactional payroll activities and working to tight deadlines
  • Provide the first line of support regarding relevant systems – supporting users regarding problems, maintaining a record enabling identification of themes and appropriate follow up action.
  • Be responsible for maintaining systems ensuring their content and the organisational structure is accurate and complies with audit requirements.
