Summary
Neway International are seeking a Targeted Support Officer to join our client based with Lewisham Council.
Location: 1 Catford Road, Catford, London, SE6 4RU
Hours: 35 hours per week
Start Date: 16 March 2026
Duration: 6 months +
Pay Rates: PAYE: £143.85 per day Umbrella/Ltd: £189.16 per day
Work Pattern: Term‑time only. Majority of the week based in schools, with Friday a compulsory office day.

The Education Services team works closely with schools, families, and partner agencies to ensure every child has consistent access to education and the support they need to thrive.
The Role
This newly created role supports the implementation of statutory changes introduced under the Working Together to Improve Attendance guidance. The Targeted Support Officer will lead termly targeted support meetings with schools, providing expert advice, guidance, and case support to improve attendance across Lewisham.
A key focus of the role is analysing attendance data to identify vulnerable pupils and cohorts at risk of persistent or severe absence, enabling schools to take proactive, solution‑focused action.
Key Responsibilities
Lead targeted support meetings with schools, LA colleagues, and partner agencies
Provide expert advice on attendance policy, casework, and statutory requirements
Analyse attendance data to identify trends, risks, and priority cohorts
Support schools in developing targeted action plans to reduce persistent and severe absence
Guide schools in implementing attendance strategies and policy development
Ensure pupils’ right to education is upheld through early identification and intervention
Maintain accurate records and contribute to reporting as required
Candidate Requirements
Proven experience in school attendance within a school or local authority setting (essential)
Strong understanding of attendance legislation, statutory guidance, and best practice
Confident leading meetings and providing professional challenge where required
Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present data
Strong communication and relationship‑building skills with schools and multi‑agency partners
Ability to work independently across multiple school sites
Solution‑focused approach with a commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people
