Summary

The School of Medicine & Dentistry is seeking to appoint a Clinical Teacher to join our enthusiastic and expanding MBBS teaching team based at the Westlakes campus in Whitehaven, Cumbria. This is a fixed‑term post for 12 months and would be well suited to an experienced clinician who is looking to develop their skills in teaching, assessment, and curriculum development.

About you:

The post‑holder will primarily facilitate teaching and act as an academic adviser (personal tutor) for students in Years 3–5 of the MBBS programme. There will also be opportunities to contribute to teaching in the earlier years of the curriculum and to support the education of Physician Associate students.

Teaching activities will be varied but will focus predominantly on small‑group delivery, including case‑based learning, medical simulation, and the teaching of clinical reasoning and communication skills. The post‑holder will also participate in student selection and assessment processes, including involvement in Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs) and examining within Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs).

Applicants must hold full GMC registration at the time of appointment and have experience working to the standards expected by relevant professional bodies. They should also have completed postgraduate medical training to at least CT2 level (or equivalent). Candidates without a postgraduate teaching qualification will be supported to obtain one during the period of employment. Although the role is based at the Westlakes Campus in Whitehaven, occasional travel to other university sites may be required.

Informal enquiries are welcomed; please contact Dr Tim Smith, the School of Medicine’s Academic Lead at Westlakes Campus, via email in the first instance tsmith15@lancashire.ac.uk.
