Job Title: Care Navigator / Receptionist Hours: 8 hours per week Salary: £12.21 per hour Location: Dudley Wood Surgery Responsible to: Practice Manager Job Summary The Care Navigator / Receptionist is the first point of contact for patients and visitors to the practice. The post holder will provide high-quality reception and administrative support, ensuring patients are signposted to the most appropriate clinician or service using care navigation principles. The role requires professionalism, confidentiality, compassion and the ability to work effectively within a busy primary care environment. Main Duties and Responsibilities Reception Duties Greet patients and visitors in a professional and courteous manner. Answer incoming telephone calls promptly and deal with enquiries efficiently. Book, amend and cancel appointments in line with practice protocols. Manage patient queries at the reception desk. Ensure the reception area remains tidy and presentable. Care Navigation Signpost patients to the most appropriate clinician or service based on practice protocols. Use care navigation training to support safe and effective patient access. Explain practice processes and available services clearly and sensitively. Escalate urgent or safeguarding concerns appropriately. Administrative Duties Register new patients and update patient demographic information. Process repeat prescription requests in accordance with practice policy. Scan, file and code clinical correspondence accurately. Manage incoming and outgoing post. Support clinicians and management with general administrative tasks. Communication Communicate effectively with patients, colleagues and external agencies. Maintain confidentiality in line with GDPR and practice policies. Demonstrate empathy and professionalism in all patient interactions. Team Working Work collaboratively as part of the wider practice team. Attend team meetings and training as required. Provide cover for colleagues during periods of absence where appropriate. Compliance Adhere to practice policies and procedures. Maintain awareness of safeguarding responsibilities. Participate in mandatory training. Support health and safety procedures within the practice. Person SpecificationEssential Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Good organisational skills and attention to detail. Ability to remain calm under pressure. Basic IT skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Understanding of confidentiality and data protection. Desirable Previous experience in a GP practice, NHS, healthcare or customer service setting. Experience using EMIS Knowledge of care navigation principles.
