The Opportunity

Barnsley College is looking for a dedicated, motivated and knowledgeable Safeguarding Officer to join our central safeguarding team. This is an important role at the heart of our college community, ensuring that all learners, staff and visitors feel safe, supported and protected.

As a Safeguarding Officer, you will often be the first point of contact for safeguarding concerns. You’ll offer timely advice and support, work with sensitivity and professionalism, and help maintain a strong safeguarding culture across the College. You will work closely with students, staff, parents/carers, external agencies and other internal teams to ensure we continue to deliver an outstanding safeguarding provision.

In this role, you will contribute to multi agency discussions, make appropriate referrals to Children’s and Adult Social Care, complete Early Help Assessments and maintain accurate and confidential safeguarding records. You will also deliver safeguarding training, raising awareness across the College and helping to embed best practice in everything we do.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about safeguarding and who wants to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people and vulnerable adults.

About You

We are looking for someone with solid safeguarding experience who can confidently manage complex and sensitive situations. You will have a strong understanding of safeguarding legislation, statutory guidance and multi agency working, and be comfortable working in a fast paced environment where no two days are the same.

You’ll need excellent communication skills, the ability to build positive relationships and a calm, empathetic approach. Being well organised and able to prioritise your workload is essential, as is maintaining confidentiality and accurate, detailed records.

Most importantly, you will be someone who genuinely cares about supporting others, promoting safety and championing safeguarding best practice across the College.

Below is a list of some of the key skills, qualifications and experience we are seeking for this exciting opportunity.

Required
• Level 3 safeguarding related qualification (or equivalent)
• At least two years’ experience in a substantial safeguarding role
• Experience making referrals to Children’s and/or Adult Social Care
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding, child and adult protection legislation
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
