Part of the wider New Bridge Multi Academy Trust (MAT), New Bridge School is a generic special needs school for pupils and students between the ages of 11 and 16. The school has an Outstanding rated provision which caters for 360 pupils with a wide range of SEND, from moderate learning difficulties to profound and multiple learning difficulties, including severe and complex learning difficulties. The school is popular with families both in Oldham and the surrounding boroughs and our numbers are increasing year on year. We are excited about being able to expand our teaching roles and create new vacancies to meet the needs of our new pupils. The school caters for a wide range of pupils including those with physical disabilities, multisensory impairments, visual impairments, hearing impairments and autism spectrum conditions. Step out of your comfort zone and into New Bridge School; experience of teaching SEN pupils is advantageous but not essential to apply for the role, we can support you to develop the specialist knowledge required to teach our pupils. We are an organisation who are committed to the professional development and well-being of our staff, we aim to support staff to achieve their own meaningful futures alongside our pupils and have established successful progression routes for them.
All pupils have an EHC plan. In order to cater to the needs of the range of pupils the school has developed a range of different provisions, including our Key Stage 3 main body, Autism Base, Interactive Base and Communication Groups.
We are committed to offering flexible working opportunities, and this role has been created to support a class teacher wishing to work three days per week. The successful candidate will complement this arrangement by working the remaining two days. To support this, the Trustees are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated practitioner to join our dynamic, growing, and dedicated staff team in the following area:
Main Body Key Stage 3: Class Teacher
Our Main Body provision supports pupils working towards greater independence and active participation in their communities. The curriculum is carefully designed to maximise each pupil’s ability to live as independently as possible.
Pupils are grouped into three tailored pathways, each offering a personalised approach that meets individual needs and helps them achieve their full potential. We deliver a fun, engaging, and flexible curriculum that aligns with EHCP outcomes and promotes wellbeing.
You would have the opportunity to work with pupils who need a highly personalised approach to learning. These students benefit from a focus on communication, sensory integration, and developing functional independence. You'll be supporting them through practical, real-life learning experiences tailored around the four areas of SEND. With an emphasis on expressive and receptive communicationincluding AAC, PECS, and Signalongand structured routines that build emotional resilience and self-regulation, this role offers the chance to make a genuine impact. If you're creative, compassionate, and ready to empower learners with complex needs, we'd love you to join our team.
About 70% of lessons are taught by the form tutor including core subjects like English, Maths, Science, Living Skills, and RSE while specialist teachers lead enrichment subjects such as Art, PE, Music, and Cooking. Groups are small, typically no more than 13 pupils, supported by one teacher and up to two teaching assistants, ensuring personalised attention based on individual needs.
This post would suit a primary specialist as the cognitive levels of our pupils in the main body are similar to those of a Primary setting. We would also welcome secondary practitioners with an interest in widening their teaching repertoire in an SEN setting.
We would be interested in applicants with experience of supporting children or young people with Autism or Special Educational Needs within the primary or secondary sector. This is also an exciting opportunity for a teacher with mainstream experience who can demonstrate a genuine interest in supporting SEND pupils and is looking to work for an organisation which provides opportunities for professional development and progression.
The successful candidates will:
- Be excellent practitioners with the commitment and motivation to inspire pupils’ learning and development
- Have experience of teaching young people with Autism or Special Educational Needs within the primary or secondary sector or have a specific interest in developing their teaching skills in a special school setting.
- Have high expectations of young people, and a commitment to raising standards of attainment to ensure that they can achieve their full educational potential
- Have experience of enhancement of pupil progress gains and raising attainment and achievement levels of all students
