Role Overview

The Health Care Assistant will deliver person-centred domiciliary care to adults within their own homes in CA5 7DS (High Bridge, Dalston/Thursby area) and surrounding rural communities southwest of Carlisle.

Care delivery will be in accordance with:

• Individual Care Plans
• Risk Assessments and Moving & Handling plans
• Medication Administration Records (MAR)
• Local Authority commissioned care packages
• Provider governance and compliance policies

The role promotes independence, dignity, safety and wellbeing using a strengths-based and outcome-focused approach.

Key Responsibilities

A. Personal Care Delivery

• Assistance with washing, bathing, dressing and grooming
• Toileting and continence support
• Safe moving and handling in line with risk assessments
• Medication prompting or administration (where trained and authorised)
• Nutritional support, hydration monitoring and meal preparation
• Light domestic support as specified within commissioned care packages

B. Complex and Specialist Support (Where Commissioned)

• Dementia care
• Physical disability and mobility support
• Palliative and end-of-life care
• Learning disability support
• Positive behaviour support strategies

C. Safeguarding and Risk Management

• Immediate reporting of safeguarding concerns
• Adherence to Cumbria safeguarding procedures
• Infection prevention and control compliance
• Accurate and timely electronic care documentation
• GDPR and confidentiality compliance

Rural Working Arrangements

This role involves lone working within service users’ homes across rural areas near High Bridge, Dalston and Thursby.

Due to rural geography and limited public transport:

• Travel between service users is required
• A full UK driving licence is strongly recommended
• Access to a vehicle is highly desirable to ensure timely and reliable care delivery

Scheduling will allow appropriate travel time in line with commissioning standards.

Pay and Employment Conditions

• Hourly Rate: £13.45 per hour
• Pension contributions in line with statutory requirements
• Paid induction and mandatory training
• Ongoing supervision and competency assessments
• Annual appraisal
• Uniform and ID badge provided

Person Specification

Essential:

• Right to work in the UK
• Enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain)
• Ability to follow care plans and risk assessments
• Good communication skills
• Commitment to safeguarding and person-centred care

Desirable:

• Previous domiciliary care experience
• NVQ/QCF Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care
• Driving licence and access to vehicle
