Summary
St Georges has a long-established paediatric hematology service caring for children with haemoglobinopathies, hemophilia and other inherited or long-term non-cancer blood disorders across SW London, Surrey and Sussex areas. This is the first appointment of a NonMalignant/ Haemoglobinopathies paediatric nurse specialist.The post is supported by Roald Dahls Marvellous Childrens Charity, bringing its experience in supporting nurses looking after children with long-term health conditions. As a Roald Dahl nurse the post holder will network with other Roald Dahl non-malignant hematology nurses, have support forprofessional development and attend the annual Roald Dahl nursing conference.The nurse will work as part of the team in providing patient reviews, school liaison andeducation, patient and family community support, GP support, and establishing a robustnursing education programme. They will support protocol and patient information development,develop nursing documents to support the care and management of patients; develop andmaintain patient databases. The CNS will work closely with children attending day care or admitted as inpatients and act as the key worker for transition from paediatric to adult services.
