Summary

Role Overview
We are seeking a reliable, proactive and detail-focused Cleaner to help maintain a high standard of cleanliness across our two community buildings.

The Cleaner plays a vital role in ensuring that our spaces are safe, welcoming and well-presented for staff, tenants, volunteers and visitors. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in their work and understands the importance of maintaining clean and inclusive community spaces.

Our cleaning team is a vital part of our services and you may be in contact with our community, service users and tenants. Our ideal candidate will be someone who enjoys being part of a team and interacting with others.

Key Responsibilities

1. Cleaning & Maintenance
- Carry out routine cleaning of offices, meeting rooms, communal areas, kitchens and toilets.
- Sweep, mop and vacuum floors.
- Dust and wipe surfaces, furniture and fixtures.
Empty bins and dispose of waste appropriately, including recycling.
- Monitor stock levels and replenish consumables (e.g. soap, toilet roll, paper towels).
- Clean internal glass, doors and high-touch points.
- Report any maintenance issues, damage or health and safety concerns to the Operations & Facilities Manager.

2. Health & Safety
- Follow cleaning schedules and checklists.
- Use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and in accordance with COSHH guidance.
- Ensure safe storage of cleaning materials.
-Support a safe and hygienic environment for all building users.

3. Flexibility & Support
- Respond to additional cleaning needs following events or high-usage periods.
- Work cooperatively with staff and building users to minimise disruption.
- Maintain professional and respectful conduct at all times.

Person Specification
Essential
- Previous cleaning experience (commercial, community or office settings).
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Good attention to detail and high standards of cleanliness.
- Reliable, punctual and trustworthy.
- Understanding of health and safety in the workplace.
- Friendly and respectful approach to working in a community environment.

Desirable
- Knowledge of COSHH regulations.
- Experience cleaning multi-use community buildings.
- Basic awareness of safeguarding principles.

Additional Information
- This role has some specific ‘Core’ hours to meet the business needs. These are:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 7- 9am (8 hours)

- The other 8 hours can be more flexible and will be agreed with the selected candidate.

- The postholder may be required to work early mornings, evenings or occasional weekends depending on building use.


Training and cleaning equipment will be provided.


This role may be subject to a Basic DBS check paid for by us.


All staff at MCDT are eligible for a health cash plan through BHSF, basic level is covered by the employer.

MCDT pays pension at 3% on the whole salary, including earnings below the qualifying earnings threshold.

Annual Leave is 20 days plus 8 bank holidays, an additional day is added for each complete year of service up to 5 years. Pro-rata for part time employees.
