ROLE DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a dynamic, forward‑thinking Head of English to lead our large and diverse English curriculum area. This key leadership role requires someone who can inspire staff, drive excellence in teaching and learning, and champion an outstanding experience for all learners.
Reporting to the Assistant Director of English and Maths, you will provide clear and motivational leadership across the team, ensuring high‑quality delivery, strong performance outcomes, and a culture of continuous improvement. You will be instrumental in shaping departmental priorities, supporting colleagues to excel, and ensuring the curriculum meets both learner needs and wider College ambitions.
As a member of the College Management Team, you will actively promote our purpose, vision, values and behaviours, contributing to the strategic direction of the organisation. You will play a central role in developing and implementing a future‑focused curriculum strategy that strengthens the department's profile and impact across the College and within the community.
You will guide the English department through a rapidly evolving educational landscape, identifying opportunities for innovation, growth and partnership development. This includes building strong external relationships, maximising income‑generating opportunities, and ensuring the department remains responsive to employer, regional and national priorities-all while maintaining an exceptional learning experience for students.
