Summary

YMCA Yorkshire Coast is a local charity supporting children, young people and communities across Scarborough and the Yorkshire Coast. We provide opportunities for people to feel safe, belong, and build confidence through youth work, community activities and targeted support.
Camp Sandcastle is our holiday club programme, running in Scarborough, Eastfield and Filey. We provide safe, structured and genuinely fun days for children and young people during the school holidays, with games, creative activities, sports, themed sessions and trips, alongside consistent routines and positive support.
Role summary
As a Bank Holiday Club Activity Leader you will help deliver the whole experience day to day. You will be hands on with set up and pack down, welcoming families, leading activities, supervising children, supporting behaviour and wellbeing, and making sure safeguarding and safety standards are followed.
Key responsibilities and main tasks
Deliver engaging sessions that are suitable for the age group and needs of the children attending.
Supervise children and young people throughout the day, maintaining appropriate ratios and positive behaviour expectations.
Support safeguarding by following YMCA policies, responding to concerns, recording information clearly, and escalating immediately.
Support daily operations including registration, headcounts, transitions, lunch times and communication with parents and carers.
Set up and pack away spaces and resources, carry out basic risk checks, and leave venues clean and safe.
Support behaviour consistently and calmly, including de escalation and restorative approaches.
Report accidents, incidents and safeguarding concerns using YMCA processes and paperwork.
Essential requirements
Experience of working with children or young people in a paid or voluntary setting.
Confidence supporting groups, setting boundaries and keeping children safe and included.
Reliable, punctual and able to work as part of a team.
Willingness to work across Scarborough, Eastfield and Filey during school holidays.
Willingness to complete safer recruitment checks including an enhanced DBS.
Desirable (rated highly)
Safeguarding training, paediatric or emergency first aid, and experience in teaching, coaching, childcare, playwork or youth work.
Experience supporting children with additional needs.
