The OpportunityAre you a resilient and creative Secondary Teacher looking to transition into a specialist setting? Randstad Education is seeking an SEN Teacher for a dedicated secondary provision in Horley.
This school caters to students aged 11-16 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Complex Learning Barriers. This is a role for a teacher who excels at building rapport with "hard-to-reach" teenagers and who believes that every student, regardless of their past educational trauma, deserves a fresh start and a pathway to independence.
Your Role & ImpactAs a Secondary SEN Teacher, you will move beyond traditional lectures to provide a therapeutic and vocational approach to learning:
-
Curriculum Adaptation: Deliver a modified KS3/KS4 curriculum that balances core academics with life skills and emotional literacy.
-
Vocational Guidance: Prepare students for post-16 transitions, focusing on functional skills and entry-level qualifications.
-
Behavioural Mentorship: Utilize trauma-informed practices to de-escalate crisis moments and teach students how to self-regulate.
-
EHCP Management: Lead the implementation of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), ensuring learning targets are both ambitious and achievable.
-
Multi-Agency Collaboration: Work alongside therapists, social workers, and parents to provide a holistic 360-degree support system for each student.
-
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS: Essential. We welcome applications from Secondary subject specialists (English, Maths, Science, or PE) looking to move into SEN.
-
Resilience: A thick skin and a calm heart. You must be able to remain professional and supportive during challenging behavioural outbursts.
-
Empathy: An understanding of the socio-economic and emotional factors that impact secondary-aged students with SEN.
-
Adaptability: The ability to pivot a lesson plan instantly to meet the emotional "temperature" of the classroom.
-
Small Class Sizes: Typically 6-8 students per class with high TA-to-student ratios.
-
Specialist Environment: Modern facilities including calm zones, workshop spaces, and therapeutic suites.
-
Professional Growth: Intensive training in Team Teach, mental health first aid, and restorative justice practices.
-
Impact: The unique opportunity to change the trajectory of a young person's life during their most formative years.
