Summary
TIMETABLE The following is for informational purposes. Ward rounds-Monday to Fridaycommencing0900 hours during Duty week. Handover times 0900 hours to 0930 hours in NICU; Evening handover 1700 hours to 1730 hours. LNU consultant is expected to attend both handover ward rounds. Precise arrangements for shared weeks to be finalised following discussion with consultant colleague/s. PAUweek:9-5.30pm ;4/yr Duty Paediatric shift-5.2/yr - On calls- 1 in10;% supplement (Subject to change; Clinic timetables and time of sessions and time off may vary;additionallate evening cover may berequiredover the winter period, with compensatory time off in the mornings) Other activities, for example the vetting of outpatient referrals (RAS) may be included, at the first job plan review Otheractivities: Outpatient clinics ~23clinics/wk Admin ~1-1.25 SPA 1.5 DCC = 8.5 SPA = 1.5 ONCALL Weekendon callPaediatricconsultant takes over from Friday1.30pm, continuing over the weekend, till Monday 9am. The consultant is onsite, undertakes ward rounds, providing resident support from 9-5pm on Saturday/ Sunday and non-resident outside of these times, available for emergencies. During the working week, theon-callconsultant is resident till10pm and non-resident till the following morning(0900hrs), available for emergencies. On-call paediatric consultant attends handover and undertakes the ward rounds when on-call, Weekend on-calls are split with one consultant covering Friday and Sunday and is then Duty Paediatrician for the following week. A second consultant is on call for the Saturday. During on-calls on-site presence will be from 1700 to 2200 hrs with on-call from home till 0900. Consultant of the week is on call from 0900till 1800 withadditionalhour (1700-1800) for handovers and urgent reviews. The consultant is expected to do ward rounds on Saturday and Sunday mornings and provide onsite cover from 0900 to1700 hours. TEACHING /RESEARCH & AUDIT The Trust recognises the importance of continuing medical education and the budget funded by the Trust is held by the Medical Director. Excellent, teaching and education and library services are provided with an active Postgraduate Medical Centre.A newpurpose-builtLibrary and Education Centre with a Clinical Skills Laboratory is available tofurther enhance the teaching facilities. Protected teaching is provided on Tuesday,Wednesdayand Thursday lunchtimes.A regular teaching programme including induction for junior doctors is in operation. Final year medical students areallocatedto the Department from Leicester University for their training all consultants share in the programme. Regular supervision and workplace-based assessments for junior doctors are inplace,and the successful consultant would share in these duties. Research and auditaresupported by an active Quality Governance Unit. The department actively supports research and has been part ofnumerousneonatal and Paediatric multi centred studies over the years. MENTORING Mentoring is available for all new consultantstaff;this is designed to help andassistnew appointees to settle into working at Kettering General Hospital as easily as possible.It is designed toassistindividuals in a personal way to familiarise them with the Trust and how things work in practice. GOVERNANCE The Department holds monthly Paediatric directorate and Consultant meetings; monthlyCYPGovernance meetings and regular departmental M&M meetings and 'lessons learned ' forums. We also have a weekly M&M presentation at the end of the Friday grand round. We have a robust system for incident reporting; all consultants are expected to investigate Datix incidents and complaints whereappropriate. We have a weekly MDT Datix club; monthly risk meetings, scrutiny meetings and doctors/nurses ward meetings that feed into the monthly Governance meetings.
