Summary

Personal assistant required for an eleven‑year‑old boy who lives in Penryn.

He has global developmental delay and possible autism and is recovering from surgery to extend his Achilles tendon. He communicates well but can find some social situations challenging. His central nervous system is overly sensitive, which can cause heightened pain sensitivity.

Currently he is not mobile, but in time he is looking forward to getting out and exploring his local community. Support will begin in the home, offering company, 1:1 interaction and time to build a positive relationship. As his mobility improves, this will progress to supporting him in the community to develop his social skills, visit new places, eat out, try new activities and, most importantly, have fun.

He loves swimming when he is able, and when indoors he enjoys making videos using ROBLOX. He is very creative and enjoys it when people draw his ideas for him, so the ideal candidate would also be creative and have some artistic skills.

Support with personal care may be required, particularly on long days out.

The rate of pay starts at £13.50 per hour, with potential increase based on skills and experience. A mileage allowance is also payable.

Six hours per week are available, and this is flexible. Weekend and school holiday availability will be required.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support a young person to grow and gain independence, while making a meaningful difference in his life.

Some knowledge or personal experience of working with young people with special educational needs is essential. A driving licence and access to a vehicle is desirable.

The successful applicant will be employed under a private arrangement with the family, and not be employed or carry out work for Cornwall Council.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All offers of employment will be subject to the successful candidate undertaking an enhanced DBS check, the administration process will be undertaken by Cornwall Council.

If you would like to apply for this role, please send your CV. Alternatively, you can request an application form.

Your CV or application form will be passed onto the family for their consideration. Due to the high number of applicants that are received for various roles, it is not possible to inform applicants if they have been unsuccessful.
