To keep up-to-date with current trends in nursing, NHS reforms and targets, participating in new ideas and approaches to the provision of skilled clinical care to patients in agreement with the Senior Nurse and other professionals within the service group/Trust.

Updates and expands knowledge and practice to ensure quality, timely care to patients, in accordance with Unit/Trust policy and NMC guidance
To be key in ensuring that the Unit environment and culture are conducive to learning, providing support and mentorship to staff and learners

Identifies research findings for practice improvement and discusses these with Sister/Charge Nurse and Senior Nurse.

Assists Sister/Charge Nurse in ensuring that the Unit operates within a Clinical Governance framework.

Takes all reasonable steps to remedy any difficulties or risks identified. Reports to appropriate manager (Senior Nurse, Sister, Site Nurse Practitioner) in accordance with Trust policy.

Ensures that detailed and accurate records are maintained for all patients, in line with NMC guidance and Unit policy.

To assist in implementation of action plans in response to quality reports

Demonstrates and maintains competence in the criteria required for entry to the NMC
register
Implements and evaluates care using an holistic approach, in partnership with patient,
careers and multidisciplinary team
Is able to interpret clinical data/patient’s condition and initiate action to prevent critical
deterioration
Plans discharge requirements on admission, making early referrals and completing
documentation accordingly
Co-ordinates team activity as necessary to promote early treatment, discharge or transfer
Is able to make decisions and carry out nursing responsibilities with sound clinical
knowledge/judgment, rationale, safety and speed
