Summary
Your new company
A leading, fast‑growing organisation in the healthcare sector is seeking an Employment Legal Counsel to join its established in‑house Legal team. Supporting hundreds of sites across the UK and Ireland, the business is committed to delivering high‑quality services, prioritising people, and fostering a culture where collaboration, development and continuous improvement are central to success. If you're looking for a role where your expertise genuinely shapes outcomes, this is an excellent opportunity. While proximity to the organisation's Cotswolds or London offices is preferred to support occasional on‑site attendance, exceptional remote-based applicants will be considered where they meet all other requirements.
Your new role
You will begin by providing maternity cover for the Senior Legal Counsel, giving you exposure to a dynamic blend of employment, commercial and contractual dispute work. Your caseload will span termination advice for self‑employed individuals, Equality Act considerations, internal investigations, assessment of claims, and representation on internal governance committees. As the cover period concludes, the role transitions into a more employment‑focused remit. You will advise on the full range of employment matters, support litigation, and work closely with senior leaders and cross‑functional teams - including HR/People, Operations and Clinical teams - alongside external advisers. This is a hands‑on, varied role offering autonomy, influence and the chance to shape high‑quality employment law support across the organisation. You will contribute to policy development, strategic projects, dispute management, IR35 considerations and internal training, while balancing day‑to‑day advisory work with wider organisational impact.
What you'll need to succeed
- Qualification as a Solicitor (England & Wales) with approximately 2+ years' PQE, bringing experience from an in‑house team or a respected law firm
- Solid experience across both contentious and non‑contentious employment matters, including day‑to‑day advisory work to managing litigation
- Confidence working with HR teams, senior stakeholders, operations teams, clinicians and external advisers.
- Excellent drafting, analytical and communication skills, with the ability to translate complexity into clear, commercially focused guidance.
- Ideally, experience working in‑house or any fast‑paced commercial environment, with comfort navigating a dynamic, growing organisation.
What you'll get in return
You'll receive a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your wellbeing, career and work-life balance. Benefits include:
- 24/7 wellbeing support, including an Employee Assistance Programme, virtual GP access and internal mental health support
- Bonus scheme linked to business performance
- Additional leave, including your birthday off and the option to purchase extra days
- Enhanced family-friendly leave
- Pension scheme and life assurance
