About the role
Job Title: Storeperson
Location: Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.
Company: Balfour Beatty Group
About Us:
Balfour Beatty is a leading international infrastructure and construction group. We finance, develop, build, and maintain innovative and efficient projects that underpin daily life, supports communities, and enables economic growth. Our unparalleled expertise and resources ensure that we deliver high-quality projects safely, on time, and within budget.
Now is a great time to join us. As a leading international construction group with a healthy pipeline of work, we’re growing our teams. Shape a career to be proud of as part of an award-winning team.
Own your career, and you can build something to be proud of at Balfour Beatty. By joining our well-established construction teams working on our significant future pipeline of projects you will work with true experts who will share their knowledge and provide support, encouragement, and invaluable feedback so you never stop learning.
Bring us your capability, and we’ll help you take it much, much further.
What you'll be doing
As an integral part of our street lighting operational depot, you'll play a key hands-on role in keeping our stores, yard, and fleet running smoothly and safely. This is a varied position where no two days are the same, and your positive attitude and attention to detail will make a real difference to our operational efficiency.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Taking overall ownership of the stores and yard — maintaining a tidy, safe, and well-organised environment that everyone can take pride in
- Managing all deliveries and collections, including safe operation of a forklift truck to load, unload, and move materials
- Booking stock in and out accurately — both physically in the yard and on our inventory systems — while proactively monitoring and maintaining stock levels (setting and reviewing clear max/min thresholds and raising orders as needed)
- Leading regular stock counts and cycle checks to ensure inventory accuracy and minimise discrepancies
- Handling day-to-day plant and fleet matters — troubleshooting minor vehicle issues, liaising with our internal support teams and external suppliers to keep vehicles compliant, on the road, and ready for operations
- Ensuring all tools, lifting equipment, and electrical assets are calibrated, inspected, and fully compliant with safety standards
- Supporting compliance across the depot — helping maintain Balfour Beatty and general health & safety requirements, contributing to a strong safety culture, and assisting with audit preparation and facility checks
- Working closely with the contract team to coordinate procurement — sourcing and purchasing the right products and materials needed to support the contract effectively
If you're someone who thrives in a busy depot environment, enjoys variety, and takes pride in keeping things organised and compliant, this could be the perfect role for you!
Who we're looking for
We’re seeking a reliable and hands-on Storeperson to join our team and take real ownership of our stores and warehouse operations.
Essential
- Proven experience working in a stores or warehouse environment, with a demonstrated level of ownership and responsibility for tasks and stock
- Solid knowledge of general IT systems, including MS Office and stores/warehouse management databases (you’ll be comfortable navigating software to update records, process movements, and generate reports)
- A positive, proactive attitude with the ability to use your initiative — you spot issues early, suggest improvements, and get things done without needing constant direction
- Comfort thriving in a primarily hands-on stores and warehouse role, while also spending time at a desk using IT systems for inventory, orders, and administration
Desirable
- Previous experience using Oracle R12 (or similar ERP/inventory systems)
- A valid forklift licence, or solid proven experience safely operating a forklift in a warehouse setting
The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys a mix of physical warehouse work and accurate system-based tasks, takes pride in keeping things organised and running smoothly, and brings energy and reliability to the team every day.
If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!
