Summary

This post is designed to support the continuing development of excellence in nursing practice across the range of clinical services at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. The post holder will provide specialist clinical advice and promote key practice developments and implementation of quality initiatives. The post holder will co-ordinate and deliver registered practitioner and healthcare support worker education packages, training materials and provide advice, mentoring and supervision to support the delivery of high-quality care through clinical expertise, The 6 Cs and Trust values. The team supports Matrons, Sisters/Charge nurses and clinical staff in creating safe, effective, caring, responsive and well lead clinical environments that encourage learning and professional growth through practice development Key Duties: Working alongside clinical staff demonstrating and applying an in-depth knowledge of a range of clinical skills Acting as a reflective practitioner, applying evidence-based practice and critical thinking to review all practices and processes of care with clinical leads Promoting and maintaining a concept of holistic care which incorporates a patient centered approach to care. Deliver teaching programmes using a variety of approaches including: patient bedside coaching, mentoring, tutorials, clinical updates, multi-professional teaching sessions and difficult cases discussions Ensuring that practices of clinical staff are working in accordance with appropriate professional guidance and best practice Assist in the development and review of protocols and guidelines for professional practice Work closely with other key individuals both internally and externally to support practice developments to improve patient care. Work with all healthcare staff to ensure that all practitioners have a clear understanding of accountability through the HCPC/NMC Code and Standards for Health Care Support Workers. To effectively support the provision of the highest possible standard of physical, psychological, social and care for patients, their relatives and friends. Provide training in response to developmental needs identified in organisational training needs analysis and training plans, local and national developments and initiatives. Facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of best clinical guidelines, policies and protocols Participate in the process of standard setting and professional developments to facilitate continuous improvements in practice and the quality of care provided. Identify and report potential issues or concerns which may compromise the quality of patient care, liaising with Ward Sisters/Charge nurses/ Matrons as appropriate. Demonstrate, skills in multi-professional team working and leadership that responds to the changing needs of patients and assist/enable colleagues to acquire those multi-professional team skills Participate, support and role model to other colleagues skilled and competent practice in the clinical setting. To work consistently with colleagues to improve all aspects of care by providing on-going support, advice and by facilitating their ownership of their own learning. Understand and demonstrate to other colleagues good current clinical practice as well as emerging clinical practice which must be supported by nationally based care standards that are empirically/research based. Provide support for staff in effectively addressing concerns and where required provide support to investigate clinical incidents or complaints in line with hospital policy. Work with colleagues to promote a culture positive of reporting concerns, incidents related to patient quality and safety. To provide a skills and competency based approach to the training, development and support of all staff and health care support worker staff across the organisation. To act appropriately in the event of any accidents and emergencies, and to report any incident according to hospital policy. To abide by the legal and statutory rules relating to nursing practice and to maintain a standard of conduct in accordance with the HCPC/NMC Code and Hospital Policies. Training and Education Co-ordinate and develop specific programmes of training and education to support improvements in practice using a wide range of approaches to deliver this. To actively promote and facilitate a learning environment in clinical areas through a wide range of approaches. Attend key groups around training and education both internally and externally and provide feedback. To carry out dedicated teaching/presentations internally and externally as identified. To be informed of local, regional/network and national health and social care developments and disseminate to other team members Development Acts as a professional/educational resource for all staff in the clinical areas, role modelling the use of reflective practice and professional learning. Facilitate learning through continuing professional development and training needs analysis. To plan self-development and undertake relevant training to further develop the role in conjunction with the Head of Department. To seek assistance in aspects which require development. To keep abreast of current research and to use this as a basis for professional practice.
