Summary

Key Duties and Responsibilities on ITU:Under the supervision of the Intensive Care Consultants, you will assist in the assessment, admission, day-to-day management, investigation, practical procedures and final discharge of patients. The ITU registrars will be expected to work at the level of a Specialty Registrar, with increased responsibility for assessment and management of unwell patients in the ITU and hospital, and for the supervision of more junior trainees. They will be supported in this by the consultant body. Experience offered: Theatres:Experience gained in a variety of anaesthesia for different surgical specialties. The candidate will be expected to be able to take a preop assessment, manage anaesthesia for ASA 1 & 2 patients and deal with anaesthetic emergencies by the end of their 3 months. There is also the opportunity to learn regional anaesthetic techniques. ITU:Experience is gained in a wide range of clinical presentations as detailed above. There is exposure to a wide variety of practical procedures including central and peripheral venous cannulation, arterial cannulation, endotracheal intubation, intercostal chest drain insertion, renal replacement techniques, percutaneous tracheostomy and the use of ultrasound, echocardiography and cardiac output monitoring in the management of critically ill patients.Appropriate training will be provided in line with the curriculum for training set out by the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine. Rota:The first three months of the rota will be standard working days 07:45 17:30 Monday Friday. The following 6 + months will be a 1 in 8 EWTD compliant rota to provide cover to the Intensive Care Unit. The rota includes day and night shifts working at the Hillingdon site. It is envisaged the appointee will cover the following areas at The Hillingdon site. Intensive Care Unit, including outreach. These duties may change over time in response to the needs of the service. Expectations:Maintaining a personal logbook and evidence to support their IAC sign off. Audit data collection and medical record keeping are all integral parts of the work. Attendance at monthly Clinical Governance and Risk Meetings (Audit Meetings) as well as participating and delivering ITU teaching.Attendance at hospital inductions is mandatory. The relevant Trust policies, protocols and guidelines should be followed. Provide evidence of competence in relevant procedures and practical skills as well as evidence of previous training. The post holder will be under the overall supervision of Dr Ivy Chan Clinical Specialty Lead for Anaesthetics and Dr Mate Vidra Clinical Lead for ITU.
