An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join a progressive, independent, state-of-the-art veterinary hospital in Bedfordshire. This flagship first-opinion teaching hospital is committed to clinical excellence, innovation, and professional development, making it an ideal role for a vet with a strong passion for surgery.
This well-established practice has operated independently and, since 2018, has been owned by the Royal Veterinary College, serving as a model of high-quality first-opinion care for veterinary students.

The hospital is fully equipped with advanced diagnostic and surgical facilities, including:

The Role – Surgical Veterinary Surgeon
This position is ideal for an experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon with a strong surgical bias.
Key Responsibilities:
• Managing a varied first-opinion surgical caseload
• Performing routine and emergency surgeries (including GDV)
• Confidence in soft tissue surgery
• Interest in advanced soft tissue procedures such as BOAS highly desirable
• Contributing to a high standard of patient care and clinical excellence
Strong surgical skills are essential. Additional salary supplements are available for Certificate holders or those working towards an Advanced Veterinary Practitioner (AVP) qualification.
Work-Life Balance & Rota

Rota Highlights:
• 4-day working week
• Fixed day off each week
• 1 in 4 Saturdays (8:00am–4:30pm)
• No unpredictable scheduling – shifts are set in advance
• Dedicated “Support Vet” shift every two weeks
The innovative Support Vet role (8:30am–7:00pm, no booked consults) allows:
• 30-minute emergency/urgent consultations
• On-the-day case support
• Improved patient care
• The whole team to finish on time
Protected administration time and thoughtfully scheduled consultations further enhance daily workflow.
