Summary
A Personal Assistant is required to provide one‑to‑one companionship and practical support, promoting independence, wellbeing, and access to the community. This includes supporting activities such as shopping, local outings, and participation in meaningful daily routines. Some assistance with aspects of personal care will also be involved.
The role centres on offering individualised support to a person with a learning disability who uses an electronic communication aid. You will work in a person‑centred, respectful, and reliable way to promote confidence, daily living skills, and positive social interactions.
A key part of the role will involve encouraging and supporting communication, helping to build social skills through meaningful engagement and positive, supportive interactions.
You will also support the individual to engage in community activities, social events, and exercise or physical activities, always encouraging independence where appropriate.
The individual can sometimes miss hazards, so close supervision is essential to ensure her safety. When out in the community, you will often need to walk arm‑in‑arm with her.
