Summary

Primary Graduate Teaching Assistant

Are you a graduate who wants primary experience while helping pupils make real progress through 1:1 and small group support?

- Primary Graduate Teaching Assistant
- September 2026 to July 2027
- £85 to £105 per day
- ‘Good’ primary school, Coventry
- 1:1 and small group academic support

If you’re a graduate looking to build school-based experience before teacher training or a long-term career in education, this Primary Graduate Teaching Assistant role gives you a strong starting point. You’ll support pupils across KS1 and KS2 with targeted catch-up, confidence-building work, helping them stay on track with reading, writing and maths while learning how a strong primary classroom runs day to day.

The Role

- Provide 1:1 and small group academic support in reading, writing and maths
- Deliver structured interventions (phonics, reading fluency, spelling, number facts) linked to class learning
- Pre-teach key vocabulary and concepts so pupils can access lessons with confidence
- Model clear explanations and use simple scaffolds to help pupils work independently
- Support pupils who need extra focus, organisation and reassurance during lessons
- Track progress and share short, practical feedback with the class teacher
- Follow safeguarding and behaviour policies and report concerns immediately

The Candidate

- 2:2 degree or above in any subject (Education, Psychology, English, Maths or Childhood Studies ideal)
- GCSE English and Maths at grade 4/C or above
- Warm, calm communication style and confidence working with primary-aged pupils
- Reliable, proactive, and happy to take direction while using your initiative
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one

The School
This ‘Good’ primary school in Coventry is well-led, organised, and focused on strong outcomes for every pupil. Staff work closely as a team, interventions are purposeful (not “keep them busy” tasks), and you’ll get clear guidance on how to support pupils effectively without creating over-reliance. You’ll be welcomed, supported, and given the kind of hands-on experience that actually helps when you apply for teacher training.
