Summary

What skills and experience we're looking for

Essential

• Level 2 qualifications in English & Maths
• Appropriate qualifications at Level 3
• Ability to engage constructively with and relate to a wide range of young people and families/carers and to see a child’s needs. Recent experience of working with young people and families
• Ability to work effectively and command the confidence of staff within the school and to work as part of a team to provide support to children and young people
• Ability to assess and review young people and family circumstances and plan appropriate responses. Drawing on in-school and external advice and expertise where necessary
• A proven track record in working with young people
• Ability to identify potential barriers to learning and jointly engage in strategies to overcome these barriers
• Willingness to undertake training required for the role
• Good communication and presentation skills
• Commitment to continued professional development
• Understanding of current developments in monitoring pupil progress at relevant Key Stages
• Awareness of safeguarding processes and responsibilities
• Commitment to supporting the Catholic ethos of the school
• Commitment to the success and well-being of all students
• Understands and actively supports the school’s policies and procedures
• A willingness to be flexible in a changing environment

Desirable

• Appropriate Degree
• Additional qualifications related to education
• Proven record of dealing effectively with behaviour management issues

• Experience of strategies for raising pupil attainment
• Knowledge of self-review procedures
• Play an active part in the wider school community
