Rochdale Council is seeking a proactive and skilled Senior Governance & Committee Officer to join its Governance Team. This is a pivotal role that provides professional committee and constitutional support and acts as a key adviser on local government decisionmaking processes.

You will take a lead role in supporting the Council’s democratic functions, overseeing committee systems and ensuring high governance standards are met across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support colleagues to ensure the Governance and Committee team meets business and organisational needs.
  • Maintain and enhance committee support systems and procedures.
  • Ensure statutory and legislative safeguarding standards are met.

  • Build strong relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, partners, and customers.
  • Deliver staff training and coaching on governance and decision-focused procedures.
  • Support the effective operation of school appeals, including administration and clerking.

This is an interesting and varied role providing high-quality governance and constitutional advice to the Council, its committees and partner organisations that work closely with the Council. The successful candidate will work confidently with councillors and senior officers, supporting robust decision-making within the statutory and constitutional framework.
