Summary

Lead Cookery Teacher – Let’s Cook Camps
Salary: £15.17 - £15.97 per hour (depending on experience)
Contract: Seasonal / Temporary
Hours: 8:30am–4:30pm OR 9:30am–5:30pm (venue dependent)
Expenses: 30p per mile after the first 35 miles per day (uplift available for car share)

About Let’s Cook Camps
Let’s Cook offers young people the chance to learn essential life skills through hands-on cookery. Children work in pairs or small groups to cook a variety of global cuisines, exploring flavours, techniques and creativity through structured, enjoyable cookery sessions.

About the Role
As a Lead Cookery Teacher, you will plan, lead and deliver high quality cookery sessions for the full camp. You will oversee the kitchen environment, ensuring safety, cleanliness and excellent standards of practice. You will work closely with Assistant Cookery Teachers to support children, maintain control of the cooking space, and deliver engaging recipes in line with the Let’s Cook curriculum.

Key Responsibilities
Pre Camp
• Complete Activate Camps training and onboarding tasks.
• Review and understand the camp timetable and curriculum.
During Camp Delivery
• Present professionally and wear full Activate uniform.
• Support camp set up and registration.
• Set up and risk assess the kitchen/cooking area.
• Lead recipe delivery for the full camp.
• Supervise and safeguard all children, including during downtime.
• Ensure clean, safe and well organised cookery facilities.
• Communicate with parents as directed by the Camp Manager.
• Manage the end of day collection process.
• Delegate tasks to ensure smooth, safe sessions.
• Report hazards or incidents promptly and professionally.
• Support reflective practice and celebrate achievements.
• Assist the Camp Manager with reasonable requests as required.
Post Camp
• Pack away equipment safely.
• Complete coaching session logs for Head Office.
• Participate in staff debriefs.
• Ensure equipment is cleaned, switched off and ready for the next day.

Essential Criteria
• Valid Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain).
• Strong safeguarding knowledge.
• Strong understanding of Health & Safety.
• Experience leading a group.
• Passion for working with children.
• Cookery teaching/instructor experience.
• Good knowledge and confidence in following recipes.
• Strong communication skills with children and parents.
Desirable Criteria
• Relevant teaching/coaching/leadership qualification.
• Previous holiday camp experience.
• Youth work or playscheme background, ideally with cookery delivery experience.
