Summary
About Thornhill House
Thornhill House is a small, friendly care home with nursing in a Peak District village run by a charitable trust for the local community. It offers 19 purpose-built rooms for permanent and respite residents as well as limited day care and meals-on-wheels services. The home is supported by dedicated staff and volunteers.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Registered Care Home Manager to lead Thornhill House and ensure the provision of high quality, person-centred care for older people. With plans to relocate and expand to a 26-bed facility offering a wider range of services, this role gives the successful candidate a valuable opportunity to help shape the future growth and direction of the home.
The Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the home, supporting the staff team, and fostering a warm, positive environment in which residents feel respected and valued. We are looking for a hands-on leader who genuinely cares about delivering kind, safe, and personalised care.
Applicants must be currently registered as nurses, have significant experience managing care homes, and preferably hold a qualification in care management.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily running of the care home, ensuring consistently high standards of care and support, and reporting regularly to the Trustees.
- Maintain compliance with CQC regulations and all relevant health and social care legislation.
- Promote a positive, open, and supportive culture for both residents and staff.
- Develop, implement, and review personalised care plans that meet each resident's individual needs.
- Lead, support, and supervise care staff, providing clear guidance, training, and ongoing development.
- Manage staffing levels, rotas, and resources to ensure safe and efficient service delivery.
- Ensure safe and accurate medication management in line with legal and organisational requirements.
- Work closely with families, GPs, community teams, and other professionals to provide joined-up care.
About You
- You hold a Registered Nurse qualification, and ideally a qualification in care management.
- You have experience as a Registered Manager or in a senior leadership role within a residential care setting.
- You have a caring and compassionate approach, balanced with clear leadership.
- You have a strong understanding of care of older people including dementia.
- You are organised, proactive, and confident in managing a care home.
- You have excellent communication skills and can build trusting relationships with residents, families, and staff.
- You lead by example and know how to motivate and support a team.
