Our client, a prominent secondary school in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, is seeking an exceptional and passionate individual to join their team as the full-time Head of Modern Foreign Languages (MFL). This pivotal role will involve leading and inspiring a dedicated team of MFL teachers, ensuring the delivery of a dynamic and engaging curriculum that fosters a love of language learning amongst our students.
As the Head of MFL, you will be responsible for driving the strategic direction of the department, maintaining high standards of teaching and learning, and championing the importance of multilingualism within the school community. You will possess a strong command of one or more modern foreign languages, preferably French, Spanish, or German, and have a proven track record of successful leadership experience in an educational setting.
The successful candidate will be a confident and innovative communicator, with the ability to motivate and empower their team. You will have a deep understanding of the latest pedagogical approaches, and a commitment to continual professional development. The salary for this position will be within the range of MPS1-UPS3, with a TLR (Teaching and Learning Responsibility) allowance, commensurate with your experience and expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership and vision for the MFL department
- Manage, support, and develop the MFL teaching team
- Develop and implement a comprehensive MFL curriculum
- Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning
- Promote the benefits of language learning across the school
- Foster partnerships with local and international organisations
- Ensure compliance with all relevant educational policies and procedures
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
- Degree in a relevant modern foreign language
- Substantial experience as an MFL teacher, with a proven track record of success
- Demonstrated leadership experience in an educational setting
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to continuous professional development
