Summary
We are seeking a reliable and skilled Maintenance Person to join our friendly care home team in Kensington, Northallerton.
Our residents’ safety, comfort and wellbeing are at the heart of everything we do. While our care team focuses on delivering outstanding care, you’ll be the hands-on problem solver who keeps the home safe, well-maintained and running smoothly — our very own on-site “Bob (or Wendy) the Builder”. Like all staff, you will need to have a friendly and pleasant manner around all residents, staff and external contractors, to ensure residents feel comfortable in their home.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of the care home, carrying out repairs, identifying potential issues, and ensuring all safety checks are completed to a high standard.
Working closely with the Home Manager, you’ll plan and prioritise maintenance tasks, using your initiative to respond quickly and practically to any issues that arise.
Key Responsibilities
• Carry out general repairs and maintenance across the home
• Fire alarm testing and record keeping
• Call bell system checks and recording
• Fire extinguisher checks
• Painting and decorating as required
• General watering and tidying of garden, (including planting pots and bedding plants
• PAT testing
• Travelling in your car to local pharmacies to collect urgent medications
• Travelling in your car to to hardware stores to collect equipment to undertake role
• Review the maintenance log daily and address urgent issues immediately
• Undertake repairs within your competency or arrange external contractors after discussion with Home Manager
• Maintain accurate records of all checks and completed works
• Liaise with external contractors when required
• Respond to rare emergencies outside of normal working hours
• Report accidents, incidents, near misses, hazards and risks to management
• Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety, COSHH and Fire Safety regulations
About You
• Practical, self-motivated and able to work independently
• Experience in general maintenance, with skills in painting and decorating
• Basic knowledge of electrical and plumbing work
• Strong understanding of Health & Safety, COSHH and Fire Safety
• Organised, reliable and able to prioritise tasks effectively
• A full manual driving licence is essential – expenses paid for any travel done
Successful candidates will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check and provide satisfactory references.
Ideally you would live local to Northallerton, so should the rare emergency occur you can be on hand to support the Care Home.
