Summary
Specific Responsibilities: - The post-holder will be dealing with routine complex details and sensitive screening results including; Counselling women and couples regarding high chance screening, positive serology and haemoglobinopathy results. Supporting parents and coordinating multidisciplinary care for babies with known fetal abnormalities and babies with suspected chromosomal abnormalities, including supporting parents through their decision to continue or terminate a pregnancy. 1.1 Responsible for daily organisation of service/ patient caseload1.2 Support the Antenatal and Newborn screening coordinator in providing high quality uniform antenatal and newborn screening (excluding newborn hearing programmes)1.3 Responsible for providing evidenced based woman centred midwifery care and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, other agencies and user representatives.1.4 Support the fail-safe officer in ensuring that data for all the antenatal & newborn screening service is recorded on the relevant databases for audit, monitoring and surveillance purposes.1.5 Support the fail-safe officer in ensuring provision of an efficient and effective administration of the national ANNB screening programmes: screening for Downs, Edwards and Pataus syndromes, newborn bloodspot, infectious diseases in pregnancy, haemoglobinopathies and 20- week screening scan.1.6 Provide a full range of health education, psychological and social care advice to women, including preconception care where required and in various settings.1.7 Responsible and accountable for the full range of care needs and develop, implement and evaluate programs of care throughout the antenatal, intra partum and postnatal period for women and their babies.1.8 Ensure that the antenatal and newborn screening programmes meet locally agreed policies and protocols as well as nationally set standards.1.9 Act as an advocate for women and their families and make appropriate referral where necessary.1.10 Identify, refer and liaise with appropriate services to women and babies who are high risk or socially deprived.1.11 Make appropriate judgments on a range of complex midwifery and child protection issues, which require assessing, analysing, investigation and action.1.12 Actively participating in clinical governance strategy, audit and risk management1.13 Assist screening coordinator with audits as per national and hospital requirements for the screening programmes.1.14 Maintain contemporaneous records in an accurate and legible manner1.15 Signpost women and families to all services available to them Education and development responsibilities2.1 All budget holders will undertake on the job training in all matters financial and will be responsible for ensuring they are setup in the finance/procurement/HR systems with the appropriate authorisation levels.2.2 Undertake annual review and statutory and mandatory training2.3 Act as a preceptor for student midwives, nurses and medical students2.4 Participate in the orientation /induction programme for staff.2.5 Participate in relevant parent education programmes enhancing knowledge, skills and parents choices.2.6 Keep portfolio2.7 Ensure attendance at department training sessions as required for professional / personal / service development
