IntroductionAcorn by Synergie is recruiting on behalf of an established engineering business seeking a practical, hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer.
This role is focused on delivering designs that work - not just in CAD, but in real-world production. You will develop new products, refine existing designs, and make sound engineering decisions that balance performance, manufacturability, and cost.
Key Duties-
Develop and release production-ready mechanical designs.

Improve and adapt existing products to enhance performance and efficiency.

Define manufacturing methods, considering in-house capabilities and external suppliers.

Identify and reduce design risk early through structured review and analysis.

Control tolerances to ensure reliable assembly and product performance.

Work closely with Production, Purchasing, and Development teams to ensure designs are practical and commercially viable.

Produce accurate drawings and Bills of Materials to support costing and manufacture.

Confident producing accurate 2D manufacturing drawings using GD&T best practice.

Strong 3D CAD capability (Solid Edge ideal, SolidWorks also considered).

Practical understanding of how design decisions impact cost, quality, and production efficiency.

Experience designing and developing sheet metal components and assemblies.

Proven track record of supporting products from prototype through to full manufacture.

Mechanical Engineering qualification or equivalent hands-on industry experience.

Salary up to £40,000 per annum depending on experience.

Monday-Friday working hours, 8:30am-5pm.
