Summary
A Vacancy at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.
• Provide a high standard Speech and Language Therapy service, assessing and advising on patients care & treatment, as an autonomous practitioner working with patients with dysphagia and/or communication difficulties as a result of Head and Neck Cancer
• Independently manage a caseload of patients with Head and Neck Cancer and complex needs relative to your clinical area using evidence- based client centred principles.
• Support the development of junior staff members through case discussions, supervision and training dependant on experience.
• Maintain clinical records in line with local / Trust documentation guidelines
• Work as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to team discussions and influencing decisions about patient care programmes, attending Multi-Disciplinary Meetings, ward rounds and family meetings where necessary.
• Contribute to maintenance and development of the SLT service.
• Participate in information management to ensure high quality data which is recorded, evaluated & reported in a timely manner.
• To undertake leadership and line management duties as required for the post.
• To work within National & Trust policies / guidelines; and HCPC & RCSLT standards & codes of conduct
• To have an in depth understanding of national & local standards & able to monitor own practice against these.
Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.
• Undertake complex assessment of patients with dysphagia and/or communication difficulties. Investigate & analyse skills & formulate individualised management & treatment plans and specialised programmes of care.
• Use expert clinical reasoning skills to interpret & analyse clinical & non-clinical facts to form accurate diagnosis & prognosis on wide range of highly complex conditions to recommend the best course of intervention, evaluate outcomes, reassess & to develop comprehensive discharge plans.
• To carry out instrumental assessment of dysphagia, depending upon experience and competence.
• To treat and manage patients who have undergone Surgical Voice Restoration and require management and change of their laryngectomy speaking valve, depending on experience and competence
• Evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment plans as required

• Cover the work of colleagues and deputise for senior colleagues during periods of absence or peak workloads
• Participate in other duties as required such as maintaining a clean safe environment always ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness hygiene & infection control.
• To take on designated roles or responsibilities that support the overarching needs of the department.
• To provide SLT provision across sites of UHCW and Rugby St Cross as needed.
